Stay Hungry, Stay Humble
Becoming a good athlete isn’t just about the amount of weight you move, how fast you finish the workout or what skills you are able to do. None of that matters in the long run…
What does matter is how you go about your training, your attitude, the energy you give off, how humble you remain…
Be the person that everyone wants to train with, someone who is positive and vibrant and doesn’t complain. Be someone that will push others to become better people, not just better athletes. These things matter.
Lifting heavy weights is awesome fun, Rx’ing workouts and fancy gymnastics tricks too…
But remember where you started?
It’s important to check in with yourself from time to time, the best athletes on the planet will do this over and over again as there is so much value in staying grounded and practicing gratitude.
If you stay consistent, trust the process and listen to your coaches, the magic happens. Fact!
This isn’t an overnight process, it takes time, we have to learn through experience. The ups and the downs. There are mechanics we’ll have to correct, strengths we’ll have to build and obstacles to overcome.
But I can guarantee, that if you keep showing up, working on your weaknesses and giving your best effort, you will get to where you want to be. (And during that process you’ll make some amazing friends and have heaps of fun!)
The biggest transformation that often happens in our athletes is something that isn’t spoken about so much. We hear many of our members speaking about losing 15% body fat, building 5kg of lean muscle, that 200kg Deadlift, Handstand push-ups, Back Squat PRs etc…
However the best kept secret is the change that happens between the ears, the development of mental strength, resilience and grit. The building of a rock-solid mindset that knows it is capable of doing incredible feats when called upon, whilst remaining humble and setting a good example to the rest of the world at the same time.
This comes from a few different areas, the types of workouts we program, the values our coaches instil in to us, the confidence that we get from overcoming things we thought impossible once upon a time. The belief that our members give to each other, the encouragement to try, to be better and not stand in their own way.
We stay away from the things that will hold you back and halt any progress. Negativity, moaning, complaining and whining, even to the degree that the word “can’t” results in a 400m Run, it is that important to us. Would you like to train with someone who constantly complains? Hell no!
Going through the adversity and discomfort of a tough workout with a bunch of like-minded friends builds bonds like never before, which is why we have such a strong team spirit and an attitude that never gives in.
Surround yourself with the right people and you’ll mimic what they do, how they operate, you’ll adopt their habits and strengths too. The quote below relates to many of us, you cannot change the size of your skeleton, but you can build muscle and shred body-fat, being around the right people will help you do that.
“A sheep can never be a wolf, no matter what costume he puts on. But the sheep can adopt the principles and strength of the wolf, thereby making him a stronger and better than the other sheep.” – Jim Wendler
Just remember that someone out there is wishing that they could do the things that you are able to do now, just like you once wished for when you started out. New members and the outside world might look on in awe in what you are capable of now, remember you were once in this position too, we all were.
Take a moment today to check in with yourself, be mindful of what you’ve had to do to get where you are today, be proud of the effort and the work that you’ve put in so far. But most importantly stay hungry, stay humble and lead by example.
